Hurray! So, after long last, I’m ready to begin my rock climbing journey. Everything is organized and I can’t wait to start.
So, my mentor is Jack Pickell, a rock climbing veteran who works at Base5, the climbing gym in Coquitlam near Club Aviva. He has been super kind to me, and I’m really excited to start working with him. He is also retired, so there isn’t going to be a problem with meeting once a week for him. I’m going to take the belaying course that Base5 offers with him as well, and tick that skill off of my bucket list for In-Depth. I haven’t met him yet, but we are going to meet on Sunday and figure out some finicky details before launching into In-Depth.
So basically everything is running smoothly and I’m super excited.
However, there are still a few challenges. While Jack is free most of the time, I’m not. Right now, I’m not too busy, but as this is a five month process, I’m not going to be free for long. Rugby is just starting up, and before long, I’m going to have to be at practice from Monday to Wednesday, and games on Thursday. I’m free on Friday as you’ve probably noticed, but that’s one of those days Jack is sort of iffy on. Weekends are also supposed to be insane at the gym, so that may not be the best time to climb as well. However, we are working this out, and it looks like we may have to alternate days to climb on.
EDIT**** Beautiful Mind Questions:
From what I can gather from these questions, the first three aspects of Beautiful Mind, (how to agree, how to disagree, and how to differ,) all require you having an opinion of your own about the topic. Well, as of right now, I don’t know enough about rock climbing to have an opinion about it, besides that I enjoy it and want to learn more. It is not a struggle for me to agree with my mentor; he knows legions more than me and right now I’m trusting his decisions because of that experience and knowledge that he has. As for how to disagree, Beautiful mind does not encourage going out of your way to disagree with someone, and well, I haven’t had any reason to as of yet. As for differing, I don’t really know enough about rock climbing to have a different opinion on it than him, as I mentioned before.
Anyway, this is all for now, but hopefully two weeks from now I’ll have a lot more to report on.
